Making & Baking

Image
This is my second action project for my class, Food.  During this unit, we’ve been learning about logarithms, the Cooking Hypothesis, the evolution of humans, the process of baking, and a lot more. We’ve baked cookies, brownies, and bread in class, while changing something about the recipe, whether it be the leavening agent, the emulsifier, or the temperature. We also went on a Field Experience to Uncommon Ground, a brewery and restaurant, to learn about brewing beer and how they sustain their crops while using them for their restaurant. Overall, I really enjoyed this unit. For my action project, I used a cookie recipe . Research Question: How does changing the leavening agent affect the recipe? Hypothesis: I think changing the leavening agent from baking soda to self-rising flour won’t change or very slightly change the cookie, as self-rising flour already has everything the cookie needs to rise. Materials and Procedure 1/2 cup of softened butter 1/2 cup of white sugar 1/2 cup of

My Quitapena Doll

This is my action project for my Spanish class, in which we created a  Quitapena doll. We've been learning about stem-changing o-ue verbs, demonstrative adjectives, and much more during this unit . For my Quitapena doll, I started out by sketching. After I made my sketch, I went into the actual designing portion. I used red, blue, purple, and pink pipe cleaners wrapped around two popsicle sticks for my doll . I also put a pink puffy ball for the head and a googly eye on it.     The most challenging part of this project was the design process. It took me a while to come up with something, but I'm glad that I came up with what I did. What I am most proud of from this project is that I put my ideas on paper and onto my doll. While it did take a while, I like what I came up with. This was a very fun action project. Making Green

This is my 1st action project for my class Food, in which we had to plant. In class, we’ve been discussing things like geometry, the carbon and phosphorus cycle, macro and micronutrients, and Fukuoka and Darwin. A quote I like from Fukuoka is “Nature, left alone, is in perfect balance.” I like it because it perfectly sums up Fukuoka’s views.    For my action project I used an Arizona Iced Tea jug cut in half. It had a height of 11 centimeters, a length of 14 centimeters, and a width of 6 centimeters. The volume was 924 cm cubed. To find the weight of the soil, I used the volume of a small cup, 142.44, and got a conversion factor of about 6.48. I then used the weight of the soil in the small cup, 117 grams, and multiplied it by the conversion factor to get 923.01 grams. I put two seeds in my soil, beans and peas. My container  The soil solution we couldn’t finish in time  All of the seeds    I had a lot of fun doing this action project. We got to do something with our hands, it was a
