Not Just Junk

This is my 8th action project, which is for my class Par for the Course. For this action project, we had to create a minigolf course based on one of the SDGs. The SDG that I chose was SDG 12, which is Responsible Consumption and Production. In our daily lives, things like takeout containers and plastic water bottles are often littered instead of being recycled properly. So, while creating this course, I wanted to show people that things that are normally viewed as junk can be used for more things than just litter. To show this, I created a golf course using things that are usually just litter. I made two different routes, both using materials that are usually recycled. The first route uses a tunnel made out of plastic bottles. You'd have to hit the ball and hit the wooden plank, where the ball would ricochet into the goal. While up to chance, it is still possible to get a hole-in-one this way. The second route is much simpler. All you have to do is hit the ball around the water bottles and into the goal.

While not everyone will make a golf course out of things they could just throw away; I hope that this course shows people to be more mindful of the things they litter. An organization that links to my course is the Plastic Pollution Coalition. This organization is a non-profit organization that advocates for the better use and disposal of plastic. With organizations like these, we can create a better, cleaner environment for everyone. Although, we as a society can also do things to create a better environment, like recycling or reusing the items we view as junk. When people do my course, I want them to think about they could reuse something in their house to make something useful. And if they can’t, to find something that they can recycle. If we want a cleaner future, we have to be the ones who create it. The change starts with us.
