Manifesto of Equity

Image
This is my action project for my class Paper Machine Manifestos, in which we had to write a 650-750 words manifestos. During this class, we learned about typewriters and how they work. I’ve never used or seen a typewriter in person, so It’s been every interesting to get to use them. We’ve also been reading manifestos such as the Communist Manifesto and the Feminist Manifesto. I’ve never read them before, and they were somewhat challenging. I wasn’t used to the writing but once I started to under, I enjoyed them. My manifesto was on equity, and how equality is not the end goal. It was was very fun to write, because it made me think very deeply on my topic. I really enjoy writing things, and I also enjoy thinking critically on things, so this was a very nice project for me. Overall, I think this class was very nice. Using the typewriters was fun, and the things we read and analyzed were very interesting

Eyes

This is the final action project for the Spring term for my class “Who Am I?” In which I had to write a short story related to our identity. During this term, we’ve been learning about all aspects related to our identity. While I didn’t really learn anything new about myself, It’s been very interesting to think and learn about our identities, and how all the different aspects of identity intersect and impact the way we experience life. For my story, I had to incorporate aspects of the book we chose for this unit. My book, Black Fatigue, talks about the mental toll of being black. I used that concept, but instead of leaving it at that, I wanted to make it show how being black (or a minority in general) isn’t just misery 24/7 and that misery that we see every day can be changed into motivation for the future. While I don't think this class or this project made me learn anything new about myself, It made me think about it more deeply than I ever have before. I also haven’t written so...

Building Better Batteries

Image
This is my action project for my class Energy, in which we had to design a battery out of just household items. The question for this experiment was if either distilled water or vinegar made a better battery. My hypothesis for this experiment was that the vinegar would make a better battery than the distilled water, as the vinegar is more acidic. For the materials, I used vinegar, a penny, a nickel, a container, and a multimeter for my battery. The materials The steps for this experiment were as follows: 1. Pour vinegar into the container 2. Put the coins into the vinegar, making sure parts of the coins are exposed 3. Put the prongs of the multimeter on the exposed part of the coins and record the results 4. Rinse out the bowl and repeat this process with the distilled water When I performed this process with both liquids, I got these results. Left: Vinegar Right: Distilled Water Since the vinegar, while still being a small amount, resulted in a higher voltage, my hy...

Making Infomercials

This is my action project for my class Energy, in which we had to create an infomercial comparing two items. In this unit, we've been learning about kilowatts, energy, power, and functions. We also had 3 engineers from Arup Engineering come in and tell us about their jobs and learned how many kWh different objects use. Overall, it was nice, nothing was too challenging yet I still learned a lot. Although, I do wish we went on more outdoor FEs.     For this action project, we had to create an infomercial comparing two items, and advertising the better one. I choose Whirlpool and Samsung washers, with the Samsung washer being better, as it cost less while still using the same amount of energy. We had to design graphs, create functions, and find a renewable power plant to compare the amount of energy both washers used. We also had to come up with a script for the video, and either voice it ourselves or have someone else voice it for us. I chose to do it myself....

A World of My Own

Image
This is my action project for my class Who Am I, in which we had to design what our version of a utopia would look like. During this unit, we've been focusing on how gender, sexuality, and intersectionality. During this term, we watch Moonlight, a movie following a boy named Chiron, and how his different marginalized identities impacted how he lived his watch. It was sometimes an uncomfortable watch, but sometimes you have to be uncomfortable to learn. I think the film was a perfect summary of what we've learned, not just for this unit, but for the class as a whole.      For my action project, my version of a utopia was a place where everyone's voices could be heard, no matter who you are or where you came from. To show this, I created a podium and placed signs around it, with different identities and important causes placed on them. For me, representation is a very big thing for me. Being a part of marginalized groups and watching them be silence...

Design a House

Image
This is my action project for my Spanish class, in which we had to design a house. In this unit, we've learned about conjugating different verbs, such as ar, ir, and er. We had to create different sentences using these verbs and design the house. What I found challenging was designing the house using Google Drawings, as I've never used it before. However, I'm happy with how it turned out, especially for it being my first attempt at using Google Drawings.  A.C. Design A House  Final Draft,  2023.     A.C. Design a House  Rough Draft,  2023.

Digging Up Fuel

This is my action project for my class Energy, in which we had to create a slideshow that talks about a fossil fuel in a country. We've discussed fossil fuels, graphing, slopes, and atoms in this unit. We've also done some experiments relating to combustion, all of which involved some chaos. We haven't on any FEs specifically for our Energy class, but I think what we've been doing in class makes up for it. It's all been very interesting, nothing too challenging and nothing too easy.     For the action project, my fossil fuel was oil and my country was China. Last year, China reported a decrease in oil consumption for the first time in decades. This was due to China being on lockdown, meaning oil wasn't needed as much. This story intrigued me, so I decided to do it. Getting all the information did take some time, but I'd say I'm happy with the results.     Going into this project, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't know what I wanted ...
